Style Files | Favorites from Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2015 - Part #1

My previous highlights from Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2015 gave you a glimpse into what caught my eye as well as my seasonal experience at fashion week. This time, I'm delving into something that fashion week is really all about - the fashion! The convergence of designers, collections, clothing and showstopper on one stage create this unmistakably electrified week which we at Style File are always delighted to capture, makes notes of and present to you.
I've handpicked a few of my favorite designers and their collections for each category which is all power-packed below.

Favorite Menswear collection: Raghavendra Rathore

The three labels by the couturier provided for varied offering from sophistication to the promotion of India's rich textile heritage. A collective mix of indo-fusion ensued with crisp suits, brocade sherwanis and silk bandhgalas. The showstopper, Bollywood actor Ritesh Deshmukh shone in a dapper Nehru jacket in gold and black. Beyond being the standout act for menswear this season, I enjoyed how the designer brought out our rich culture in his collection.

Favorite colour palette: Moon Lit Sand by Shilpa Reddy

Models and showstopper Bollywood actor Nimrat Kaur showcase anarkalis, sarees and lehengas for designer Shilpa Reddy's collection at Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2015 in Mumbai

My heart has been stolen by pastels this summer and yet, I'm not entirely ready to let my brights go. The aptly named Moon Lit Sands collection by Shilpa reddy had a delicate yet strong colour palette that combined creamy beiges, champagnes and creams with bold cobalts, fiery reds and deep greens. Another reason to go pastel this season, which the Style File trend report seconds completely!

Favorite prints: Quirkbox by Jayesh Sachdev and Rixi Bhatia

Models showcase crop tops, maxi skirts and bright prints of Quirkbox by designers Jayesh Sachdev and Rixi Bhatia with Adidas Originals sneakers at Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2015 in Mumbai

An eternally strong contender in the prints arena, Quirkbox stole the spotlight with their typical bright hues and intermix of prints and colour blocking. Their prints, which revolved around travel and globe-trotting, found a prominent place over their crop tops, skirts and dresses. I cannot fail to miss the plush athletic feel that the adidas sneakers gave which is perfect for a spunky summer.

Favorite ethnic collection: Kalpavriksha by Gaurang Shah
Designer Gaurang Shah showcases traditional Indian ethnic wear with sarees and weaves with showstopper Bollywood actor Vidya Balan at Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2015 in Mumbai
As far as traditionally Indian, ethnic collections go; Gaurang Shah hit a homerun.  The Tree of Life collection, crafted with khadi, chikankhari and varied Indian textiles, had a commonality of intricate weaving carried throughout it which brought to life a number of natural motifs in bright and jewel tones. Bollywood actor Vidya Balan looked at home in a stunning kanjeevaram saree in violet and gold.

Favorite colour: Nikhil Thampi

While the lustre and lamé of Nikhil Thampi's collection promised a luxe feel, there was one vivacious shade that caught my eye. We all know well enough that summer is mango season and albeit a strange connection to make; this bright, vivid shade of bold yellow appeared on a few garments in the collection and like the alphonso mango, left me wanting more of the shade this summer.

Favorite embellishment collection: English Garden by Soumitra Mondal

Models showcase sequin crystal and bead embellishment on anarkali lehengas and sarees for designer Soumitra Mondal at Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2015 in Mumbai

The minute Soumitra's collection was showcased on the ramp, I became the shiny-eyed onlooker. English Garden was replete with beige and peach tones which were ingeniously complimented with embellishment in the right dose. Making it look effortlessly elegant; the sequins, beading and crystals took over the jackets, vests and lehengas while allowing them for a sophisticated finish.

Favorite fabric: Nishka Lulla

Designer Nishka Lulla and models showcase a collection of crop tops maxi skirts pallazo pants in sheer fabrics at Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2015 in Mumbai

While Nishka Lulla's collection of coordinated separates and flowing silhouettes was reminiscent of her previous collection, the fabric usage was smart, especially in our weather. The appearance of muslin, chiffon and organza lace made for pleasant cover-ups and peek-a-book elements in the collection which is a delightful take for the Indian summer.
