Style Files | Favorites from Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2015 - Part #2
You've seen the embellished collection that stole my heart, the mango inspired shade that got me drooling as well as the print maker who added summer spunk in the previous post. You've also spotted my designer stall meanderings and fashion week experience. Now for the final part to the series this season, I've saved the best for last which includes Bollywood's brightest stars as well as my overall personal favorite collection. So get set because last is definitely not the least.
It was a few years ago when I first laid eyes on Nimish Shah's collection at Shift and even without knowing a great detail, I was besotted. What makes this collection my personal favorite overall at Lakme Fashion Week this season is how wearable it truly is. The breezy dresses, the belted skirts, the flowing hems and somber shades made for an enjoyable collection, one that you would love to step into and get away on a holiday.
Print mixing can be a daunting task to wrap your head around but if Ikai's collection by Ragini Ahuja makes it look this easy, then I am all in. Inspired by oriental elements, 'Tribe' saw numerous crane motifs, japanese scripts, dots and stripes all coming together in hues of blue and beige with threadwork. Giving this collection a gold star, I most enjoyed how such varied shades, motifs and fabrics intermixed to form such a balanced, delightful collection.
Favorite black and white: DRVV by Dhruv Kapoor
When both shades of the dice merge, it's magic - one that an eternal achromatic lover like myself always knows to be true. While Dhruv Kapoor is known for his bare colour palette, I especially like his move of sprucing it up with deconstructed elements, clothing upcycled from other clothing and an androgynous fair with menswear inspired pieces.
Favorite jewellery: Iridescent Space by Valliyan by Nitya Arora
A name in the jewellery world that is known for its statement making pieces, this time was no different for Valliyan. While body jewellery has been taking over since last year; the 'Irisdescent Space' collection takes inspiration from fantastical lands and whimsical galaxies. The futuristic collection showcased layered necklaces, headgear and armlets crafted from precious stones and metals against a backdrop of white.
Favorite Indian fusion collection: 'A Mirror Affaire' by Ridhi Mehra
Bringing together two ends of the worlds can be confounding but Ridhi Mehra handled it effortlessly. Her collection merged eastern and western influences; seamlessly blending contemporary silhouettes while staying true to her roots. Elements of the Sheesh Mahal was portrayed through motifs, mirror work and aari embroidery all with the femininity of pastels.
Favorite showstoppers: Arjun Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor for Kunal Rawal
It isn't everyday that two of Bollywood's biggest superstars showstop a fashion show together so Kunal Rawal's show came as a treat. The collection was one of urban inspirations with a touch of Indian elements and included fresh new cuts, embellishment and silhouettes. Shahid and Arjun were trendier than ever for their walk down the runway in arms with the designer himself.
Favorite silhouette: Shift by Nimish Shah
It was a few years ago when I first laid eyes on Nimish Shah's collection at Shift and even without knowing a great detail, I was besotted. Favorite print mix: 'Tribe' by Ikai by Ragini Ahuja
