Beauty Queen on a Budget | Spring Summer '16

With the first day of spring having arrived just last week, it is only a matter of time until the leaves unfurl and pastel shades come out to play. Soon enough, it will also be the start of summer and while I'm a sunshine loving girl at heart, I don't care for the greasy skin and beads of sweat that it brings along with it.
That's why, this edition of BQOAB is all set to take charge. The handpicked products for the season are focused on exfoliating, strobing and getting back to the basics of the make-up regime, which is what summer is all about. Get set to make your skin glow, stay smudge-proof and leave your nails sparkling, all within the budget of Rs. 450!

Faces Hi-Shine Nail Enamel in 'Hollywood/54'

Beauty blogger Dayle Pereira of Style File showcases the glitter nail polish Hollywood from Faces Canada as part of the makeup and beauty products on a budget for the spring and summer

I generally groom my fingernails to stay short and tidy which unfortunately, makes intricate nail art impossible. That's why when I'm looking for a snazzy nail look, I rely on a nail polish that gives me that with ease. The 'Hollywood/54' shade from Faces contains multicolored foil confetti encased in a clear coat which looks chic with the simple stroke of a brush. It glides on smoothly and whether worn as a topcoat or plain, looks dazzling.

Price/Quantity: Rs. 200 for 9 ml
Availability: Rare. At select cosmetic stores, Faces counters and online on Jabong and Purplle.

Vichy Eau Thermale Thermal Spa Water

Beauty blogger Dayle Pereira of Style File showcases the Vichy thermal spa water face mistas a makeup and beauty product on a budget for the spring and summer

I admit that when I first set my eyes on this spray can, I didn't think too much of it. That was probably since I knew little about facial mists and fortunately, this changed my notion about it. Said to contain mineral-rich water from Vichy in France, this can is perfect to slip into your clutch for a midday spritz. While it is slightly expensive, this thermal water refreshes and revitalizes the face without leaving a sticky residue, even on sensitive skin. Just what you need for summer, I say!

Price/Quantity: Rs.390 for 50 ml
Availability: Moderate. At select chemists,Vichy counters and online on Amazon India and Nykaa.

Rimmel London Scandal Eyes Shadow Stick in 'Bulletproof Beige'

Beauty blogger Dayle Pereira of Style File showcases the Rimmel London Scanadaleyes eyeshadow stick as a highlighter for strobing as a makeup and beauty product on a budget for the spring and summer

The funny part about this product is that I adore it for reasons apart from its primary purpose. While the champagne shade with micro-flecks of sparkle is meant to be an eye shadow, I have used it for everything except that. I've used the wooden crayon stick on my waterline to brighten my eyes and while it looked decent, it wasn't long lasting. However, it shines, quite literally, as a highlighter. The shade has just the right enough of shimmer to strobe my cheekbones and nose bridge without budging all day, especially when I'm going for a dewy look.

Price/Quantity: Rs.415 for 3.25 gms
Availability: Rare. At all Rimmel counters.

Maybelline Baby Lips Color in 'Spicy Cinnamon'

Beauty blogger Dayle Pereira of Style File showcases the Maybelline Baby Lips tinted lip balm in spicy cinnamon as part of the makeup and beauty products on a budget for the spring and summer

It's no surprise that the Baby Lips range is one of my favorite lip balms and this one did not disappoint. You get a whiff of that delicious cinnamon scent as the tinted formula glides on smoothly. It lasts for 3 - 4 hours after which it needs a reapplication. The colour payoff came as a pleasant surprise because I wasn't expecting a brown hue, which looked natural and sat lightly on my lips.

Price/Quantity: Rs.140 for 4 gms
Availability: Easy. At all department stores, Maybelline counters and online at Amazon India and Purplle.

The Nature's Co Earthborne Walnut Mint Foot Scrub

Beauty blogger Dayle Pereira of Style File showcases the Walnut Mint foot scrub from The Nature's Co as part of the makeup and beauty products on a budget for the spring and summer

While I have used this product in my DIY pedicures for years now, I've never fully realized how great it is until recently. There's not much fanfare around the brand and the product although there really should be! The walnut grits within it quietly slough away the dust and dry skin while exuding a tingly mint fragrance. You can really feel the results once you take a few steps and realize how light and smooth your feet feel - perfect for sandal weather!

Price/Quantity: Rs.430 for 125 ml
Availability: Rare. At Nature's Co stores and online at Nature's Co and Jabong.

Personal Style | Daily diary: edition 1

There's a quote that says, 'Dress like you are going to meet your worst enemy today' and it is one that I stand by completely; on most days at least. Being an over-dresser with a flair for taking it a notch too high, there's hardly any effort needed on my part to follow the quote because I live it everyday.

That's why I've decided to start a digital diary of my personal style on a regular basis. While I enjoy experimenting and dolling up for my outfit posts; I'm also a damn good dresser outside of Style File. However, the days when I cannot stand to get out of my pajamas are the exception. While my Instagram profile sees outfit breakdowns every now and again, Style File deserved to get in on the action too! So without much further ado, here's a look book of what I'm wearing around town.

Inspiration | Miroslava Duma

In a world where street style is a fashion parade and personal style bears very little originality, coming across a true stylista is rare. Years ago, when street style wasn't as commercialized as it is today, I spotted pictures of a petite figure bundled up and smizing for the camera. A few seasons later, there she was again. A little internet sleuthing later, the style maven had a name.

From Anna Del Russo to Anna Wintour, we thought we knew the biggies of the fashion industry but it isn't your fault if you haven't heard of Miroslava Duma. She hails from Russia, a country we would hardly associate with high flying fashion, but one look at the tiny fashionista and those notions will change for good.

Stylista Miroslava Duma wears her printed coat over a houndstooth printed skirt, boots and hermes bag

Being one of the earliest street style stars to be shot by The Sartorialist's Scott Schuman elevated Miroslava to the next level. And while I'm not easily impressed by the way of style spottings, Mira's was different. Her sleek brunette locks, her barely there makeup and small stature spoke to me on a personal level. That's when I knew that this was an It Girl to look out for.

Besides her sky high style game, this lady has the business smarts too! Armed with a masters in business, Miroslava took her first step in the journalism pool as an editor with Harper's Bazaar. Not shabby at all, I say! From there, she branched into freelancing for a variety of top notch glossies like Glamour and Vogue. Finally she went on create Buro 24/7, an all inclusive digital digest of the latest in art, cinema, fashion and much more. She hasn't been termed as a 'brilliant entrepreneur' and 'force of the fashion industry' for no reason, you know. She is a speaker on fashion, has taken her website to new heights and collaborates regularly with luxury brands such as Chanel and Louis Vuitton.

While women with legs for days can be red hot, I've always related well to those similar to my proportions. That's probably why Miroslava's style tops my charts. She dresses like a dream while experimenting with every silhouette in the book. While I was always apprehensive of the towering trench coat, Miroslava made me revisit it. She tackles the lampshading fashion trend with ease as does she with a short suit. Print mixing? Mira's been there and done that. Whimsy prints, floral appliques and bundled up chic all have her name on it. If there's a new in town trend or a classic twist, the diminutive diva does it all with ease. No wonder she's a global street style icon. Come fashion week and you know which It Girl to keep your eyes peeled for!
