Style File + Gillette Venus | Busting myths with my friend Venus

I find that the best advice comes from someone who has experienced it, whether it be in affairs of the heart or in this case, hair removal. Since I've previously spoken about my usage of a cocktail of hair removal methods, I feel like it enriches my thoughts about it and makes my opinion more sound. Basically, for me and hair removal it is 'been there, done that'.

I've tried my hand at depilatory creams, waxing and epilation while shaving was a constant. What I found with most methods was, while I did achieve hairless skin at the end of the exercise; the process of each differed and not always in a good way. While some did a patchy removal job, others were like slow torture. That is what set my Gillette Venus razor aside from all the others. Not only was the result of shaving, smooth skin but the process to achieve it was painless, consistent and inexpensive.

Perhaps that is why it is bemusing how often I get into debates with salon workers about shaving because of old wives tales and apprehensions surrounding it while shaving was, in fact, the one painless, convenient method that stood by me, without any side-effects. While some may insist that shaving makes your hair grow back thicker, the truth is that an external tool like a razor has no effect on hair growth - your internal factors like genetics and hormones do. Likewise with the extremely popular myth that it darkens your skin, which it really cannot do. Your internal pigmentation, constant friction and the sun's rays can do that but shaving cannot. Another untruth is that more pressure on the razor is believed to give a cleaner shave, which in your best interest, is something that you should avoid doing completely. In a similar vein, many also believe that a worn-out razor is better to use rather than a new one because the latter causes more nicks and cuts. The truth is, new razors cannot give you more cuts than an old one, being over-enthusiastic with your razor and shaving in an incorrect way can. If you find that your regular razor isn't giving a close enough shave, it's probably time to change your cartridge since your previous one isn't functioning efficiently.

Through the years, whether it was the wonderfully smooth shave it gave me or losing my 'hair removal-ginity' to it, my Gillette Venus razor meant a great deal more than just a shaving tool. It was the friend I turned to in hairy situations, the buddy I could count on even when I was running late and the pal who could accompany me on a holiday, easily slipping into my tote. The journey with my Gillette Venus razor continues as we've got many sleeveless dresses and denim shorts to come. I urge you to subscribe to smooth as well and you can thank me later for the silky skin like never before.
