Personal Style | Sweater Weather

I knew I had a flair for drama from a long time ago, when I aced it onstage at a school annual day. No beads of sweat trickled down my forehead nor did I imagine the audience in their underpants; essaying the main role of a fairy-tale character just came to me like second nature. So it was no surprise that when I was in the process of discovering my personal style, I leaned towards the dramatic. And by dramatic, I don't mean feathers in my hair while I wipe out a hand fan (although I would be open to the idea!); my definition of dramatic has come to mean dialing it up when it's time to dress or in the simplest of terms, over-dressing.

My years of self-discovery of my own personal style (which are currently in process too) have taught my that I'd rather be overdressed than under dressed. Oscar Wilde, who believed that a woman could never be overdressed or over educated, would support me completely. Tip-toeing the fine line between outlandish, over the top and over-dressing is of great importance and if done right, there's no such thing as too much of a good thing.

So when my favorite season of winter comes around, you can only imagine the thrill that the over-dresser inside me feels. Although highly unnecessary in the Mumbai winter, it is still the chance to bring the woollies, trenches and capes to the forefront, without looking completely ridiculous. The pinnacle to my over-dressing urges is the day it is actually cold. Oh, what joy! While others groan about bundling themselves under a blanket, I seize the opportunity to be a snuggle bunny with a beanie.

Although my pangs for the holidays are wearing off, I'm making the process a little smoother by opening my arms to the sweater weather and getting all bundled up. Keeping the outfit in muted grey tones, I brought out a scarf in plaid, the unofficial print of the season and matched it with bright pumps and a micro bag. It was the day when the over-dresser in me jumped with joy and now that I've egged her on, she's really looking forward to the colder days to come.
